Hiding from his responsibilities as the soon to be crowned King of England, Richard the Lionheart escapes into a forest with his love; a stable maid, Lea. Ignoring all the warnings from is advisors, his attempted courtship of one below his station quickly turns into a race for survival when he and Lea are ambushed by assassins. The three attackers are quickly dealt with by Richard but not before Lea is injured by a tainted crossbow bolt.
Injured and wary, they try to make their way out of the forest but they are continually thrown into conflict by the dozens of hired assassins that hide within these woods, waiting to deliver the fatal blow.
Meanwhile, Richard’s chaplain, Anselm, has been looking for him within the castle and has deduced he must be out in the forest. Determined to drag him back to his duties, he sets off into the woods to seek him. Anselm quickly discovers the plot to kill Richard when he stumbles across Millicent, a young and headstrong farm girl who has also been hired to kill Richard.
Anselm bargains Milicent’s life for her help and the two go in search through the woods for Richard.
